  1. If that’s all the movement you’re getting at 120, I’d ssy you’re safe as houses.

Totally fine, all full bike racks do that. If it bothers you get a fork mount, it sways about half as much.

Bikes catch a LOT of wind up there. Another tip is don’t follow a bigger vehicle too close, the wake turbulence makes the bike go crazy.

  3. There is always going to be some movement. The most important thing is, it’s not going anywhere.

Be careful with drive-throughs and low branches! I’ve had some bad experiences!

  5. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s not advised to use this type of bike rack with carbon frames. The movement is quite normal, but I’d be anxious to crack the downtube with the clamp…

  6. Next time you put it on the rack, shake it side to side with moderate effort. You’ll see how much it moves without too much force.

  7. The tree that does not sway, breaks. But, I do tend to agree with those concerned about clamping a carbon frame. Even with an extra layer of protection, that’s a lot of side to side on a very concentrated spot.

  8. It’s normal. You rather want the bike to wobble a bit, than to have all the forces go through wherever it’s mounted.

  9. I use a Yakima highroad which is pretty damn solid and the bikes still move. You gotta remember you got bushings that are compressing and the roof bar also bending slightly to the forces against it. This will make the bike sway a bit

It’s actually good it’s moving otherwise it would be putting massive forces through the bike. If it puts your mind it rest I’ve done probably 20x 1000km trips with carbon bikes on a roof rack and usually cruise at 130-140kmh. No issues.

  11. Doing 120? As long as your not plowing over mailboxes
Or at least get a radar detector to tell you where the cops is

If the bike’s aero were right, it shouldn’t move at all. Change bike, it’s garbage. /s

  13. It’ll get a LOT worse behind a truck (or lorry in your country perhaps). Atmosphere is not homogenous. And because your bike’s drag coefficient is far from 0 (especially sideways) you are gonna get some effects. This not only looks fine, it shows the mount is working pretty good.

  14. Looks good to me. Just don’t go through any drive-through’s or anything like that. I’ve seen some horror stories.
Which is why I switched to the one that goes on the back. I feel much safer.

  15. I don’t understand why we haven’t all gone to racks that hold the fork with wheel removed. I’ve had a bike slip out of its grip on the frame and fall over hard on the car. Plus I don’t like the idea of a clamp on my carbon
