I’ve been cleaning my jockey wheels as I’ve done many times before. However when putting everything back, the lower (tension) jockey wheel won’t spin when the screw is fully tightened it has to be loosened off a bit and even then it does not spin freely as such.
This is part 1 of a bigger problem with the rear derailleur in that it won’t change down the cassette properly but will change up perfectly.
I’m not sure if the derailleur is bent as the bike got blown over in the wind the other day and since then it’s not been right.

SOLVED: bushings are not identical it turns out. So need to careful when disassembling and cleaning to keep each jockey wheel and its bushings and screws together.

what RD is that? just to eliminate the obvious, is the bushing inside the jockey wheel?

Did you probably loose the little metal tube that sits inside of the jockey wheel?

I mean on 105 I’d replace the jockey wheels either way with Ultegra ones. Cost 10€ or so and have actual bearings and not the bushing bullshit that comes on 105

Assuming you’ve got the guide and tension wheels in the right places, you’ve probably mixed up the bushings, they aren’t the same. Try swapping them.

Are these original? I ask because I previously got Shimano ceramic bushings for Sora only to realize that it was for narrower cage. Also from the looks of it, despite you say it’s nowhere near the specified torque, the amount of threads that you got out on the opossite side is beyond what I typically see.

I did manage to “retrofit” my Sora with the 6700 pulleys simply by adding extra spacers from the inside between the metal dustcaps and the cage. Without that, I was hitting the same problem as you now. (No issue with shifting despite it’s 10sp jockeys on 9sp groupset.)

  6. On the other point, I like my derailleur alignment tool. Turns out all rear mechs need aligning.
