First tip. You can write MTB instead of MTN bike.
Keep riding. Have fun. Don’t feel the need to push your limits at this point. You will be learning organically what works and what doesn’t (as you did with that fall.) Just enjoy the excitement and enthusiasm of the ride.
The brake lever have the most power at the end of the lever. If you slide slide your brake levers in on the bar so your index finger can land on that natural it will give you more brake strength. Also on those V brakes there is a very small grub screw on the side of the lever you can tight it to bring the lever closer to the bar in case your hands struggle to reach the lever. I would bring it to a shop and get them to help adjust the levers.
Hell yeah Durham region mentioned π€
Ah Durham Forest. I haven’t been there in ages and it’s a great place to learn trail riding.
Watch videos on how to, join beginner group rides or hire a coach to help progress faster.

Dude. I’m a local here too. Theres hella terrain. Even across the road in walkers woods and dagmar. Personal favourite is sliders in the DF. Trail hub is putting in the work too if youre looking for something with a few more jumps and berms.
See you out there bud!!!
