It’s probably come up a lot, but I’m getting pretty sick of how anti-Canyon LBS staff are.

I’ve been noticing a clicking/banging noise when I’m sprinting or out of the saddle on climbs coming from the front end. I spoke to my LBS owner on the phone, and as soon as I mentioned it was a Canyon his tone changed and he starting talking about how cheap the carbon layup was and it was probably a damaged frame – without having looked at the bike. It could well be, but it’s never been crashed or hit so I’d be surprised, I’d expect it’s more likely to be something to do with the headset but let’s see.

This is just the latest in a long line of jibes I’ve had from LBS staff in the time I’ve had my three Canyon bikes dating back to 2013. Are they really that bad compared to other brands?

If you can, find a LBS that’s a canyon service point. I’ve had the same experience in Switzerland and the only solution is to go to shops that are “partners” of canyon.

Based in the UK and never had this from about the 5 shops I’ve been to, sorry to here you’ve got unlucky

  3. My click and banging sound was first my loose top tube bag then my computer mount

Had this here in California as well. Shortly after I got my Ultimate took it to LBS to have the disc brakes looked at – had persistent rubbing. Dudes there made similar comments about bolts probably were not being torqued correctly, bike build, etc. I was a bit bothered but also don’t see Canyon bikes around here much (this was 2021, even now they’re not common).
Went back to same LBS a few months ago to have my shifter brackets replaced. Talked to the mech there awhile, he was working on a Speedmax. He was cool as hell, said he liked my bike. So who knows I’d just find another LBS or ignore it.

If yours is still original and you’re not 100% certain it’s from the front and, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the BB. I have the exact same model and was having the same noise a couple of years ago – changed the Token BB for another version of the same, which solved the problem for a couple months and then came back again. Changed that for a Shimano BB and never had a problem since.

On LBS’, you’ve probably been unlucky. I haven’t used one since pre-Covid with previous Canyon’s, but, none of them ever had any issues or negative things to say. Vote with your feet and go elsewhere, it’s your money they’re losing out on.

  6. I’ve had one shop do this, and a quick, curt reply of “oh, I’ll take my money elsewhere” usually gets the managers attentions just in time for me to walk out of the store. Fuck outta here with that, next shop!

You bought a bike from a company that’s sales strategy is to exclude your local bike shop. I’m not saying they are right to dismiss your issues but unless they’re a canyon repair shop they don’t have to even look at it. There are 2 shops where I live that unless you bought it from them won’t touch it. Guess it’s the industry eating itself more and more.

Weak shops. Weak mechanics. I work on bikes. I ride some Canyons. Bikes are bikes. Some have nuances that others don’t. Good shops and good techs don’t care.

I don’t understand why LBS hate direct to consumer so much, most brands are D2C now. I can buy them from their own website. Not only that, a lot of people buy bikes from other shops so they’re not making money on those either…

In the US most bike shops are like this but I think it’s a lame attempt to sell you something else. I wouldn’t worry about it being a bad bike, it’s probably no better or worse than anything they sell. I’ve had a similar experience with BMC, giant and Scott when the shop didn’t sell those brands.

Everyone is always “support your local lbs” and “support your local ski shop” but they fail to realize a lot of these guys are no less scummy than car dealers.

  12. Since 3 or 4 years i do business with a “mobile” mechanic. He come to your home with his van and do the repair in my driveway. They don’t care what brand of bike you have since they don’t actually sells bike.
