Hello! I have a ten mile commute and want a non trailer based way to haul my dog along. He has not built the stamina to do ten miles yet so my ideal option would be a bag I could pack away and pull out when he gets to his limit or a basket of some kind. I need to be able to bring my dog inside and park it next to my desk so a trailer pull system is kind out of the running unfortunately. Also before anyone says anything about his stamina just know he is a Dalmatian and they were bred to coach ( follow a horse and carriage for extreme distances ) he LOVES to run and we hike miles multiple times a week but we are working up to ten for sure and it’s a commute there and back so it would be close to 25 miles in one go which is extreme even for him at this point.
Also just a ridiculously unneeded amount of dog photos for your enternainment.
He is a 45lb Dalmatian he has about a 28” girth

Honestly, I think you’d have an easier time figuring out the trailer & parking situation than hauling a 45lb dog in a backpack or a basket.
You could get a folding trailer that would be easier to break down and stash at your desk
Google dog carrier backpack. There are many options for most sizes of dogs and budgets.
i don’t have any recommendations but i wanted to stop by and say thanks for dog pics
Have you ever worn a 45-pound, wiggling, backpack?
And/or put 45 pounds of weight slung off-center on your bike?
Both of those things are dangerous for you and your dog.
You either need to figure out a trailer option that will work, or leave your (admittedly awesome) dog at home.
What kind of spam is this? .___.
Maybe the RayAllen manufacturing
Rappel sling or harness system with the leg attachments could work for u …
There is no such thing as too many dog photos. Thank you!
I don’t have any advice for you but I saw a guy biking in Richmond with FOUR dogs on his bike. He had a husky in a backpack, a lab in a basket on his rear rack, and two small dogs in his front basket. Pretty crazy. Maybe look into a backpack I’ve seen people on TikTok using them to carry bigger dogs. Might take a few minutes to get him in and out of tho.
My Aussie is 28lbs and does well in his backpack for about 35 minutes but after that he gets restless so I got a trailer for longer commutes.
I carry a 30lb Shiba Inu in a backpack when biking to work (50 min commute each way). At 30 lbs, it’s doable but I wouldn’t recommend it for the average person. You’re putting a lot of weight at the highest point on the bike. It’s unstable. And any movements your dog does greatly impacts your balance (heavy weight plus leverage). Your lower back is also gonna take some time to adjust. I use a backpack because the road conditions here aren’t great and we don’t have continuous bike paths.
That said, the backpack I use is from a company called K9 Sport Sack. Overall I’d say the backpack I bought is great quality. If you choose to go this way, please take some time to train your dog to be relaxed in the backpack on prolonged rides. And please also take time to let your back get accustomed to the significant increase in load.
I agree with folding trailer. I got one on marketplace for like $20….it hauls critters in style.
