I’m just getting into cycling. I recently bought a road bike with
2-hole clipless pedals already installed. I found these shoes at the thrift today that clip into the 2 hole pedals, but I’m having trouble clipping them in. Are they compatible? I’m honestly so confused. I think I’m just going to switch out my clipless pedals for flat pedals.

That’s a Shimano mountain bike spd pedal and you have an spd cleat on that shoe, so yes.
They should be. On your pedal you see the little gap with the +\- on there. Turn that screw to the – (left), it’ll loosen the tension
This should work, but your pedals I tightened to maximum spring force and there is rust. Loosen that bolt with an allen key and apply some oil (chain oil will do).
If you have trouble clipping in add a little lube to the spring in the clip/pedal and/or adjust the tension screw
I hope so, I jam a similar cleat into a similar pedal
Technically the compatibility is between the cleat and the pedal, not the shoe and the pedal, but yes, these are the right kind.
Yes, that’s the correct shoe and cleat to match the pedals.
Yes, spd pedals and spd cleats. It’s a match.
You can fit a shim under the cleat. That will provide a bit more clearance for the shoe / pedal interface. Shims are usually supplied with the cleats.
