Join me on a ride through the heart of Lancashire’s industrial past as I navigate the Leeds & Liverpool Canal using the DJI Osmo Action 4. This route takes us up the formidable Wigan Flight and through the serene grounds of Haigh Hall.

The Wigan Flight

This impressive stretch of water is a masterpiece of the 19th century. Spanning two miles, the flight consists of 21 locks that lift boats over 200 feet. It was the final link in the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, completed in 1816, and remains one of the steepest lock flights in the country.

Interesting Fact: The sheer volume of water required to operate the flight is immense. Every time a boat passes through the entire flight, it uses roughly one million gallons of water.

Haigh Hall
The ride continues into the historic Haigh Woodland Park. Haigh Hall itself is a Grade II listed building, constructed in the early 1800s. It served as the family seat for the Earls of Crawford for centuries.

Interesting Fact: During the First World War, the hall was used as a hospital for injured soldiers, providing a peaceful retreat for recovery within its 250 acres of woodland.
