Congrats. Search r/brompton for “upgrades”. Lots of threads. Grips, EZ clamps, saddles come up often. But it’s a great (free) bike as it is.

The only Brompton-specific thing is an IKEA BAGGMUCK shoe tray

I keep mine inside the front door and the bike fits on it perfectly, catches any spills or drips

  3. The best thing is a bag for a front carrier block. Very handy to carry things and getting groceries, especially when the bike itself have “grocery cart mode”.

A decent bag for the front luggage block, maybe? One of the better utilitarian features of the bike, IMO. They’re pricey though, even compared to other bike bags.

Otherwise, I’d just say: congratulations! Enjoy the ride, and figure out other mods if/when they’re needed (I’ve only changed the grips, on mine).

I think the Brompton lights are integrated really nicely. It adds some safety without ruining the lines of the bike.

Other than that, there is a lot of little things you can do to personalize your bike. The simplest one is to get colorful easy wheels to add some flash. Brompton makes some but you can also get aftermarket ones. Check out https://www.fantastic4toys.com/. Just be careful with compatibility. Easy wheels should go with any Brompton but other upgrades you want to make sure go with your C Line.

Congratulations! You’ve just won a fantastic bike that, if you take care of it, will last you a lifetime!

The best thing you can do it just get out there on it. It’s more of a personal thing for what needs to change but here are the easy ones:

Saddle uncomfortable? Go try out some alternatives!

Looking for an easier ride? Change your tires! Continental Contact Urban are my favourites but YMMV.

Finding it hard to get up hills? Get a smaller front chainring, or even convert your bike to a 6 or 12 speed!

Otherwise you are looking at personal choices, weight saving etc which you get into later.

Good luck, have fun and share your rides with us!

Congrats on winning the C-line. I assume you are staying in Singapore?
Some of your road bike stuff will port over, such as lights and cycling computer.

Enjoy the fold on multimodal transport. Took mine on mrt, mt faber cable car..

If it comes with a 50T chainring; A brompton 44T chainring will free up one gear…a rockbros or equivalent front bag suitable for Brompton, as it can be used mounted on the bike while folded in shopping trolley mode. Maybe an Ikea Dimpa bag for packing while folded.

Oh and don’t throw the box away, it can be either cut in half to park your bike, or reused to transport your bike when flying. Padded with some clothes in a bag.

Nothing much else to add after that, keeping it stock makes it that much more reliable.

Safety first, get yourself some lights, a phone stand for practicality, and then a bag !

  9. Congrats on winning your first Brompton, that must be so exciting! Your steel frame Brompton can easily last you 10 to even 20+ years if you take good care of it!

    1) First things to consider buying, a good front bag to put on the front carrier block.
Consider if a shoulder bag is ok for you, if so you can check out shops in Singapore like 808Cycles (my top choice) or Cycle Oxygen for Brompton bags or other branded bags compatible with the Brompton.

If you prefer a shoulder bag to carry as much as possible, with a roll top, then the Brompton T Bag (up to 30L capacity) in black is one of the best, even better than their current Borough Roll Top L bag. But have to check for those 2nd hand or by searching Ebay from the UK until one pops up.

If you will be using the Brompton to get on and off MRT/Subway easily, then I highly suggest looking into a backpack compatible with your Brompton. Backpack bags make the transition from going into and out of the public transit so much easier/more convenient. I understand UrbanX has backpack options to custom order, also based in Singapore.

    2) Look into larger roller wheels, like 80 mm or 70 mm or higher. Brompton made larger roller wheels for their G line that have 70 mm or 80 mm sizes, should be compatible with your C Line. (Cycle Oxygen or Brompton Junction Singapore may have stock). The 80 mm size is harder to find, if you want an alternative then 808Cycles in Singapore sells an 80 mm alternative. If you go to his shop you can even test roll the Bromptons he has them fitted on.

It is a game changer to have larger inline skate type of Eazy wheels. They truly make the folded Brompton roll so much better, it is truly easier to roll into stores/shop or even if you decide to use it to roll folded up inside a grocery store, or in coffee shops/etc.

    3) I highly suggest waxing your new chain/drivetrain if you are open to it, to make it easier to clean your Brompton drivetrain and not have to deal with oil marks on your hands/clothes.

    4) Handlebar grips, find one that you prefer if you do not like the stock one.

Other items like lights, etc maybe you can use the same from your road bike on your new Brompton.

Enjoy and do keep us posted on what you end up getting!

  10. i didn’t like Brompton stock grips so that would be something I can recommend to change.
