I don’t have any of these types of bike lanes in the city that I live in, but they look nice. The bike lanes we have are just painted lines, which can still get very dicey when drivers forget that their car shouldn’t pass the white lines.
These types of bike lanes would be amazing to have and would make it so much safer to ride places, but how does a city implement such a thing while also having on street parking?
Most bike lanes we have are on two way streets, and on streets that cross many people’s driveways. It’s very common for people to park their cars on the road, so I find it difficult to imagine a use case for curb protected bike lanes.
Do you have these in your city? Does your city still have on street parking? Is it possible to have both in residential areas?

They’re awesome, however they can be a tripping hazard for people parking next to them and folks getting out of cars parked parallel to them tend to step into the *lane without looking. Luckily the lanes are usually wide enough to try to avoid the oblivious.
Good 👍
It’s annoying at night when those are two-way. Bike or car or both headlights blinding you, depending on which way you’re travelling.
The second image is just useless and only there for hey we did something as bare minimum, the first one will derail every car except for lifted trucks.
Great when they’re unidirectional. It’s sometimes awkward to make crossings with them, but they’re so much better than paint in every way that matters.
Mostly great. They can accumulate debris in some locations, and if the powers that be don’t invest in specific cleaning vehicles, that can pile up in a bad way.
But they’re mostly great.
On street parking is so stupid. You should not be allowed to store your private property on public property.
Generally, I like them. They’re a cost-effective way to quickly implement protected bike infrastructure.
I’ve never directly experienced them, so hard to say. But I feel I would personally like them to have periodic gaps that can ensure I can move out of the lane if needed to get around an obstacle in the bike lane.
