You can cycle from Teddington in south west London to Whitton entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.
The route is 4.1km long (2.6 miles) and makes use of the old London Cycle Network route 32.

Blurred him out a second too late
Good one
Thanks for the video – too icy for me on days like that.
I didn't realise the London cycle network is obsolete-is that because it's ben superseded by cycle super-highways? thanks for the vid, another informative & well researched piece
Icy dicey!
Iβd just note that Stanley road shared pavement does get quite a bit of pavement parking be that school or otherwise, and that the junction on to Hampton Road has just been redone to generally a better standard, donβt need to do such a tight turn in traffic coming the other direction itβs on my commute or can be at least
I know someone who is trying to get the Whitton chicanes removed as he uses a trike, and is well inaccessible thus to him
Good point about social safety, hadn't thought about that aspect of pedestrianisation.
Two things struck me watching this; 1 – how perception of time changes with age. Your 'ancient history' is my recent memory. 2 – and I'll caveat this by saying I guess most people watching your channel are socially minded, but completely agree with people on foot or bike offering help. In the wider sense, in spite of large amounts of divisive social media output, generally most people are nice. Finally, another great video π
HELL-O.
Very brave to venture out in this ice comrade.
Hi Jon, have you ever ridden down C31 between New Malden and Raynes Park? It's a really nice stretch to cycle on and there's an easy quiet route from Kingston to get there. Worth a video I'd say!
I use a bit of cycle route for commuting and it is not gritted or street lit so I find it safer to cycle on the road in the winter π
Thanks for this and for all your videos. I am the vicar of Teddington and was previously the vicar of Whitton, so this route is beloved and familiar. The founder of the Times isnβt in Shacklegate Gate lane, though, but in my churchyard at St Maryβs which predates the civic cemetery!
Good point about having people IRL on the streets (Hope the guys ok btw!). Something I hadn't considered. Maybe the pedestrian version of passive surveillance in urban design, where good design can and should help everybody
Great to see this route as it's right on my doorstep. That said, I've never actually cycled through Teddington cemetery, I'll give that a go soon.
Great content, really enjoyed it π
Hello, are all "cyclist dismount" signs advisory? If not, how would one tell the difference between an advisory one and a traffic sign?
Nailed it! I used to do this exact route a few years ago, glad to see it here
