Why do you want to disassemble it?? A good rule of thumb when working on bikes is that a drill is never going to be the answer unless you’ve snapped a bolt and you need to drill it out.

  2. That’s just how it is. Clean it like it is, don’t drill it unless you want to buy another cassette.

  3. I would throw that whole thing in an ultrasonic cleaner if you want to get all the crevices

  4. Yes. Drill the rivets out. It’s the only way. It will be soooo clean. Give in to your feelings.

I’d buy a ultrasonic cleaner before I drilled out rivets, if you are going to be that OCD. But getting it that clean is entirely unnecessary and a waste of time, regardless of method.

  6. I clean the drive train on my bikes and wife’s bike regularly without taking the cassette off ever (only time they come off is replacement). This cassette is pretty damn cleaned as is.

  7. A lot of higher end cassettes are machined monoblocks and people can keep them clean without issues. I use some hot water with bio-degradable detergent and a brush. The cassette becomes very clean very quickly.

Furthermore, having the sprockets together reduces wear on the freehub body.

    My advice: Leave it be.
