We leave Campingplatz Schloss Kirchberg in Immenstaad early in the morning and make our first stop at BΓ€ckerei BrΓΆcker H. in Hagnau am Bodensee β because no cycling day starts properly without fresh bread. π₯
We ride 13 km through vineyards, fields, and small historic towns to Unteruhldingen, with a stop in Meersburg along the way. πΏ Meersburg is a must-see on Lake Constance β medieval buildings, castles, and everything in bloom in summer. The main attraction is Meersburg Castle, one of the oldest inhabited castles in Germany, once home to the poet Annette von Droste-HΓΌlshoff.
When we reached Unteruhldingen, we visited the Pile Dwelling Museum β Stone Age pile dwellings built over the lake, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ποΈ The museum is built over the water itself, letting you walk through reconstructed Stone Age villages surrounded by Lake Constance. The pile dwellings around the lake date back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age, between around 4000 and 850 BC. Some of the world’s oldest wooden wheels were discovered right here.
Then: the Dornier Museum near Friedrichshafen. βοΈ An aviation museum next to the lake with around 400 exhibits, including 12 original aircraft and space technology displays. You can sit inside some of the aircraft, explore the cockpits, try the communication systems, and see exhibits connected to early Lufthansa aviation history. A must-see even if you are not into planes.
After the museums, we cycled 5 km back to Friedrichshafen and took the train to Stuttgart β ending our five-day trip around Lake Constance. π
Day 5 total: 26 km cycled.
TOTAL TRIP: 140 km β’ 5 days β’ 3 countries (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) β’ 565 m elevation gain

β ABOUT THE BIKES: One of us rode a Decathlon Elops 520 β a basic city commuter, not a touring bike. The other rode a Decathlon Riverside Touring 520 crossbike. Both completed the full 140 km without any issues. The Lake Constance route is flat and well-surfaced. You do not need expensive gear. If you have a decent bike already, it is enough to do this trip.
