Just got back into riding. Here’s this build i threw together for street riding in greater Los Angeles. Feels great to be back on two wheels. I’ll see ya out there.
I started riding 20 odd years ago when I lived in San Francisco. Rode with a couple of the MASH guys back then (props to Masan & Eugene). Bombing/Climbing hills in SF was INSANE but so much fun. Can’t believe how reckless I was then. What a time to be young & dumb.
53cm Kalavinka (kind of beat up but that’s what its for)
Deep V’s on Philwood High Flange hubs. 3Cross rear, radial front (Got these built by Allez in HP, they do amazing work)
Sugino 75 Cranks w Campagnolo Chain Ring (No Toe Clearance) Don’t think I ever rode a bike that did. lol
49 x 17 gear (this has always been my preferred ratio)
Platform Pedals w Power Straps (hate cages & velcro straps)
Brooks Saddle (they suck at forst but break in so good)
Oury Grips

Looks much better than any beater I’ve ever seen. Good stuff.
“Beater” lmao but awesome bike I love it. I was wondering what you like about/your experience with the power straps? I’ve been looking into different foot retention and never heard of these. Do they give a secure hold? How are they for skidding?
quote unquote beater
🔥🤘🔥
Deep v’s, oury grips, Phil woods and 75’s on an njs frame with a full length top tube protector. Those were the days.
Welcome back to the game og!
putting a frame pad on a “beater” seems very silly to me.
One man’s beater is another man’s grail goddamn.
Is the “beater” in the room with us now? Lol awesome looking ride, digging the mix of colors. Do those straps only work with mks/platform pedals like those?
njs frame beater? Okay man
Phil hubs does not a beater make
Awesome post! Such a great frame of reference for someone that’s new to the fixed gear world, seeing builds like this w the story to tie it together is even more amazing. Hope you’re back on the saddle and riding again!
