At the same time, the pilots struck enemy shelters and personnel hiding in a drainage pipe in the South Slobozhanskyi direction. Earlier, Ukrainian defense forces have repelled an attempt by Russian occupiers to breach the border into the Sumy region, eliminating nearly the entire personnel of the enemy’s assault group. Reports indicate that close to 100% of the Russian soldiers involved in this attempted incursion were killed. The Sumy region, which borders Russia, has faced repeated cross-border raids and shelling since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Deputy Commander of the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces, Oleksandr Yarmosh, confirmed the details. He stated that Russian troops attempted to use a pipe-crossing tactic. Specifically, 22 occupiers tried to crawl into the Sumy region through a drainage pipe near the settlement of Yablunivka. Yarmosh noted that the enemy chose to make a hole just 100 meters from a previous attempt, believing it would help them break through Ukrainian defenses. However, as he emphasized,

Recall, recent reports from 2025 and early 2026 indicate that Russian forces have repeatedly attempted to use underground drainage and gas pipelines to infiltrate Ukrainian positions, a tactic that has resulted in significant losses for them, with many troops being killed inside the pipes or upon exiting. These operations have frequently been referred to as a repetition of a, supposedly, successful infiltration tactic used by Russian forces earlier in the war, but they have largely been met with, according to Ukrainian data, heavy losses due to increased drone surveillance and artillery monitoring by Ukrainian defenders. 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces recently said that Russians once again attempted to break through a gas pipeline, using the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod gas pipeline.

It is noted that the enemy tried to infiltrate using a gas pipeline, as well as maneuvering on quad bikes and motorcycles. “Thanks to the coordinated work of the soldiers of the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade and adjacent units, these actions were timely detected and stopped”, the report says. It is indicated that enemy losses amounted to 35 killed and 17 wounded. In addition, 3 motorcycles and 4 quad bikes were destroyed.

Earlier, 8th Air Assault Corps reported that Russian occupiers made another attempt to infiltrate the territory of the Sumy region through a pipe near the village of Yablunivka.

Paratroopers of the 71st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received intelligence and waited for the ‘chimney-sweeps’ fully armed. The unmanned systems and artillery forces did their job clearly and cold-bloodedly.

“And once again convinced the occupiers that their command does not consider its subordinates to be people, throwing them to be torn apart without any remorse”, — the 8th Air Assault Corps emphasized.
