Newbie backpacker here, I started riding with my gravel in October last year and I loved it. I saw some videos of people talking about bikepacking, went through this sub several times, in the end I decided to go to Badajoz by train, then start pedaling to Lisbon. No tent unfortunately, as first I preferred to stay in hotels and hostels, but I loved it! Thanks to that person who wrote on Reddit to not buy any strap, an old tube can basically do the same job! I am already excited to plan my new trip!
PS: everything I own is second hand, from the bike to the bags, so if you want to start just look for second hand stuff on wallapop, FB marketplace or vinted.

Personally I like the idea of DIY and cycling, simply put it’s punk. Not trying to be Lance Armstrong or some tryhard on Instagram lmfao. Super inspiring your story, hope you continue to have fun cycling!
Honestly if it works it works, nobody should say it’s stupid. I remember so fondly my trips when I was still figuring everything out and had much worse equipment, almost more than the better equipped trips.
