Forgive me for the basic question—I’m new to road cycling.
Are these jerseys sized appropriately? Is the name of the game to go as tight as possible without the back sliding up or it bursting at the seams?
Short sleeve = small Pedal Mafia
Long sleeve = medium Assos

The PM top looks just about perfect.
The Assos top looks like it might be a tiny bit loose, but hard to tell. Definitely wearable, but not race-fit tight. The biggest thing that’s throwing me off there is honestly the shoulders. Unlike normal menswear, the shoulder seam in cycling tops tends to be more inset, like if you were wearing a T-shirt 1-2 sizes too small. (See this model: https://www.reddit.com/r/CyclingFashion/comments/1sw01r4/sizing_advice_experience_with_pns_speedsuit.) It looks like you might have tugged down the shoulders to where you think is “comfortable” in your normal frame of reference, and that could be skewing the rest of the fit — making the arms seem long and potentially masking some looseness in the top. Just my guess on that, but if that is the case, see what it fits like with the shoulders in the correct position, and it might either reveal some more awkwardness or get rid of the awkwardness I’m picking up on.
Agreed on the green/tan Pedal Mafia kit. Great fit. The Assos jersey is a good fit in some areas but loose in others. You would have to try a size smaller and see if anything becomes too tight possibly near armpits.
