I recently had my first overnight trip, and due to poor route planning, ended up riding 34/40 miles of gravel in varying size and quality (I was expecting max 4miles). Surprisingly, no flats on this setup despite occasional pieces getting lodged and necessitating a stop to remove. The last photo emphasizes the kind of clearance I was riding with. I wouldn't call it comfortable. Overall had a blast can't wait to go for a more ambitious distance.
Any advice on scouting routes? Specifically I am wondering if there is a way to easily visualize road type (in the US).

Clearance? WE DON’T NEED NO CLEARANCE!
Hella snug.
Underbiking FTW! I did a 1000 mile ride on 28’s. My knees hurt so much I cannot remember if I was comfortable or not. Only one flat from a piece of metal.
Gravelmap.com is pretty good at telling you if you will be riding a paved surface or not, but its community generated and can be incomplete if not wrong.
Google maps street view and other satelite maps help. Most paved surfaces are easilly distinguised from non paved if you have a decent resolution.
Mapping applications will give you a rough estimate, but thats the least reliable.
Did you manage to fit your Hennessy hammock into the saddle bag? I’ve tried and struggled to get both the hammock and the sleeping bag (down) into the saddle bag.
Is the “clearance” in the room with us now?
