Just wrapped up my first bikepacking trip from Isla Vista → Ojai (Camp Dennison) and honestly it exceeded expectations.

The route was incredible. A huge portion is on designated bike paths, and the sections on PCH were unreal. You pass through what feels like every biome. Coastal cliffs, beaches, forested stretches, farmland, vineyards, even industrial areas. It never felt repetitive.

I ran a 42×18 on a fixed gear and was really happy with it. Super smooth on flats and descents, and I was able to handle every climb. The toughest was the final push up to Camp Dennison. About 1.5 miles, ~600 ft gain at around 8%.

Made stops in Carpinteria, Ventura and in Ojai stopped at Bart’s Books, Topa Topa Brewing, Sama Sama, Boccali’s Pizza

Super fun trip. Curious what others would tweak for a setup like this or similar routes?

  1. Is that a whole two person tent just hanging on your bars? I may have underestimated how small a legit tent can pack down

Always respect some good trackpacking. And looks like a beautiful place to be on a bike
