  1. The same courts that let drivers who hit cyclists off with a slap on the wrist? No, the courts will not protect us; concrete will. We must continue to apply pressure and advocate for separated and protected infrastructure that cars, even autonomous ones, cannot block on a whim.

  2. I was rear ended by a dude going 60 in a 40. Was a hit and run. He came back told me i was fine just needed a nap. Well this was last year dude still driving. I have zero faith in our justice systems.

  3. If that’s too high a bar, then TfL should tell them to fuck off until they can get over that bar.

  4. The only thing stopping me from slamming my u-lock into a hood everyday is the fear that the driver will kill me. Thanks for eliminating that fear Waymo.

  5. At least where I live, taxis with drivers already park anywhere with no consideration for bikes, oncoming traffick, blocking mid speed lanes or what not. So not much of a difference.

  6. Seriously, why is a private company dictating the terms by which it operates on public roads?

I’m convinced that death by car will eventually be our inevitable fate.

Everybody treats bad driving so non-chalantly. We temporarily mourn the loss of a loved one and then instantly move on as if it’s just an acceptable part of our society. It’s like Carousel in Logan’s Run or when Big Brother decides in the novel 1984.

Currently, the three leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer and preventable accidents.

Of preventable accidents, motor vehicle collisions account for 15-20%.

And you know what? Driving is an indirect factor to heart disease and cancer too.

Congrats to Google for making their driverless taxis indistinguishable from human-driven taxis.

  9. Surprised they didn’t just point out that human drivers already do this without repercussions. (At least here in Texas.)

  10. I was biking in LA the last couple of weeks, and there are Waymo’s everywhere, mostly empty with no humans inside, passenger or driver. The nice thing I figured out about them is you can take the lane and they don’t try to pass you or honk their horn at you, they just politely follow at whatever speed you’re willing to set. And all the radar shit on top is tall enough that the vehicles behind can’t really see that you’re in front of the car so everyone is just pissed off at the Waymo for slowing them down.

  11. Waymo may as well tell pedestrians that Waymo cars stopping for people crossing roads is too high a bar….

So if customers expected these cars to run red lights, that would be fine then?

Every once in a while Waymo gives me yet another reason to hate the fucking things.

It’s okay, maybe they’ll need to replace their tires more often then 😉😉

Even Tesla’s FSD is perfectly capable of respecting bike lanes in the Netherlands and that system is significantly less advanced. This is such nonsense.
