Hi everyone.
I’ve recently picked up this basket to put my backpack into when riding, but I need to buy or make some sort of cover/tarp for it to feel extra safe. I’ve tried just putting some plastic bags on top but they just kept flying away and were too flimsy.
I’m considering sewing a custom „box” using a raincoat-type material that would go on top of the basket and tie down somewhere. I’d rather avoid making a rigid lid so I can transport bigger loads if need be (veggies stack up quickly) but I’m open to that as well.
What other ideas do you have?

I would remove the wood floor from the wheels first. It adds a lot of extra weight without any benefit. /s
Cargo net
Straps.
Either elastic or ratcheting straps to hold down whatever’s in the basket.
Backpack rain cover under the cargo net?
Decathlon sells backpack covers in various sizes. The perimetre is elastic, and the whole thing is rainproof as well.
If you have no Decathlon, i would search for something similar.
I combine a back pack raincover to keep stuff dry with a few bungies to restrain it.
A rack with additional lower pannier rails would let you add panniers/side baskets so you’re not trying to cram.everything into a single top crate. I like wald folding baskets.
I have a little net with six hooks on it. I stretch this over the top and it keeps my backpack in nicely.
The hooks fit through the mesh in the basket. I cannot see if that’ll work for you.
I could do multiple backflips and I bet the backpack wouldn’t leave the basket.

“Safe” for what?
I am always paranoid about someone grabbing my bag out a basket although no one has ever tried. So I use a carabiner clip on a bag strap.
Obviously if it’s rain, you’ll need something else.
