We’re Dean & Nala, and we’ve been best friends since December 2018. I was cycling around the world when I heard Nala meowing out for me somewhere in the Bosnian mountains. With no intentions of keeping Nala, I knew i had to save the wee kitten and take her to the vet – but I was well aware of the fact that it might be a bit of a challenge considering I only had a bike. However, despite my concerns, Nala quickly climbed out of the front bag on the bike handle and straight onto my shoulder. Since then, we’ve been travelling the world together. So feel free to tag along if you’re interested in following our journey and adventures around the globe ❤️

  1. I thought that it was nice of Dean to kneel down to sign the lady’s copy of Nala’s World. What cool interaction! Love Nala’s chirpy way of talking back and answering Dean’s questions. I’m proud of you, Dean, for literally carrying on while walking with your gear & Nala. Safe travels!😻🐜🧺🚴‍♂️🌍🌏🌎❤️🕊️

  2. Tips for picking up snails …

To pick up a snail without harming it, the most important rule is to never pull it directly up by its shell while it is suctioned to a surface. Doing so can cause mantle collapse (or mantle detachment), a fatal condition where the snail's internal organs are pulled away from the shell.

The "Tap" Method: Gently tap on the shell with your finger. This alerts the snail to danger and encourages it to retract into its shell, naturally breaking its suction so you can lift it safely.

The "Slide" Method: If the snail doesn't retract, gently nudge or slide it forward along the surface. Once its "foot" (body) begins to loosen, you can gently scoop it up from underneath.

Passive Transfer: Place a damp leaf or your own hand directly in front of the snail and let it crawl onto the new surface on its own accord.
