I am new here. I have been scouring the posts and enjoying the admiration of other’s rides.

I don’t have a sexy photo of my bike yet, just this from test fitting the rack and pannier, will be adding a 2nd since I have a bulky uniform I’ll change into when I get to work.

Developed Plantar Fasciitis back in September, ‘powered’ through it until February when I finally met with the physical therapist when she told me to find non-running forms of cardio for 2 months. Being in California and the Iran ‘def not a war’ and gas prices going even higher, I decided to commute to work as a form of fitness, injury prevention, and financial benefit.

Commute is about 18 miles round-trip, pretty flat, a handful of stops. I’ve been riding my kid around each day, 2-4 miles, as an excuse to get my butt on the saddle and break myself in. I have been doing 30 mins on the bike at the gym 3 days a week as well, hitting 7.6-7.9 miles each time.

I finally found a well-maintained Trek 7.2 FX on FB Marketplace and took a chance. Spent another $300 on rack/panniers/helmet/etc, basic commuter needs, as far as I could see.

I’m excited to start riding it daily, but I have a question. Will chamois’s be a noticeable improvement in butt-pain resistance? The pain has gotten significantly less in the last 2 weeks of near-daily riding. Something I didn’t like was my penis rubbing and it feeling like I was going to piss myself, and the reading I did say these would help a lot with that and there not being a seam right there, and the padding to help with the pressure on the nerves.

Curious on others thought and experiences. Is it more-so getting your body used to this situation, or will this improve the experience? I’m a little thicker at 5’10”, 205.

I appreciate any experience or guidance. I’m going to keep reading posts and guides I find! Looking forward to start logging some IRL mileage.

  1. You’re not that “thick” my friend!

I’m around 5’10” 310lbs and find that a pair of bibs is so worth it even for my commute.

But with that being said, time in the saddle will help. I don’t really need the bibs for my commute anymore but they’re just comfy and nice to cycle in.
