I run 11-34 x 46/34/20 on my Atlantis and use the 34 – 20 gear a ton. Something that low is rarely needed on the road outside of loaded situations but is super useful on singletrack. When the 34t cassette wears out I’ll go for the 36t to squeeze as much range out of it as possible. For all rounder type bikes ultra low gearing should be the priority. Also makes longer rides possible knowing that you can ride the granny up basically anything even 50+ miles in.

  2. Do you have any issues if you end up in small small or big big? Just wondering as the stated capacity for your RD is 45.. I’m running a 26-36-46 with a 11-36 and have been considering 24 or 22 on my granny gear but it will be over the specced 45t capacity for my alvio RD 🤔

  3. Impressive. But may my compliment not make you complacent, but spur you on further. Make it work with a 10-52T cassette.

  4. I love low gears. I have 42/26 w/ 11-36, still considering going lower. I feel like I should just have a triple at this point. The chainrings are meant for a triple mounted on a Sugino crank.

  5. How much the gear inches when the chain is in the lowest chainring and the biggest sprocket?

I love this. Stupid low and wide gearing combos is my tinker projects. Currently running a 1×8 24t : 13-46t with a sub 15 gear inch granny gear. I jokingly call it trackstanding up a hill.

I have a 2×10. 36/22 : 11-42t that is my favorite set up. Friction shifted and it’s perfect. I have spitballed adding a 3x to this 10sp to try something like you have here.

I run the same, just for fun, and it’s great in the mountains.….

    94/58 BCD for the win.

  8. Nice! You’ve just barely got me beat. I’m on a 11-36 with a 40-20 2x. Absolutely wild range. Feels like I could pedal up a wall!
