Apologies if this comes across as a total rookie question.

If you have a look at the photo you can see the recommended BAR is 4.5-7.5. I’ve got my pump set to 6.9 but it’s starting measurement (2.0) is so low and I don’t want to puncture anything. Feeling the tires with my hand they feel firm already. Is this because the Brompton tires are so much smaller? Do I need to be worried about bursting the tire?

  1. I’m always pumping to 7 bar, no issues so far. Below 5 bar I’ve had burst tires though.

  2. I’ve noticed that the pressure whilst high, goes down quite quickly, and there’s not much of it!

  3. I tend to run mine at 70-90 psi (4.8 – 6.2 bar). They tend to lose air faster than my road bike tyres. I would pump them up to 6 bar and feel the difference squeezing them from the sides. You’ll probably notice they are much firmer which is correct.

It depends on what you mean by “firm”, at 2 bar I would expect it to feel quite soft, you should be able to squeeze the tyre quite easily. It could be your pump gauge is not accurate.

I would try 4 bar and feel the tyre, it should not feel rock hard. Then increase the pressure until the tyre feels firm, you would need a fair amount of force to squeeze the tyre.
