I swapped wheels and tires around and found that I could fit 28mm tires on this lovely old girl. Well then I got some new wheels, they're a little bit wider than the old ones and clearly that made the tire a bit bigger and now there's not much clearance. Oh well.

When the wheel goes out of alignment a little more, you’ll have your own bike instrument.

Any kind of sand, or wetness plus regular debris, will have you regretting your decision.

measurements from tire to tire are really not accurate. a 25mm can fit more like a 28mm and often it depends on rim width. There’s no way to solve the problem. also, you need to look at the clearance under load.

Older bikes just do not have the proper clearance for tires of this size! Whether it is the brake calipers? fork crown? chainstays? And if you get any wheelflex you will get obvious rubbing. Not to mention that you can have issues removing your wheel, even after opening your brakes. Stick with 25s max. Get another bike made with more clearance.

  5. Imagine descending and hitting a bump that causes the tire to rub too much. You’ll be otb before you can respond.

Chancing tire clearance is one thing, potentially hurting yourself is another.

Hope you have good health insurance. I predict a visit to the hospital in your not so distant future.
