In little ring/little cog (which I know I am not supposed to use normally) the chain is super slack and tends to falls off the little ring/it's also noisy in like the smallest 3 cogs in general. I used a chain sizing tool to size this but I think I need to use a different tool or the wrap around method based on this. I also can't seem to dial out noise/cage rub on the outer plate with the limit screw when in the big ring/smaller cogs but that I think will just take more fiddling.

  1. Probably the chain is too long, but you need to check the big-big combo as well, this is the more critical part.

  2. I dunno, that looks fine to me. How is it in the big/big combo? Can you get into big/big without things jamming?

I would expect cross chaining to work poorly in general.

  3. It’s possible that whatever online chain sizing tool you used got the correct length, but that your RD capacity is exceeded by the gears you have installed. Ideally, you want the chain long enough to where you can be in the big-big combo without breaking anything, and you want the chain short enough to where you can go small-small without losing tension on the bottom of the chain. It’s not always possible to have the ideal setup if chainwrap capacity is exceeded.

  4. Wrap chain around big-big with out going through the derailleur. Find the place where you would connect them. Count and add an additional 4 links past that for the correct chain size.

How many teeth are on the cassette’s biggest cog? And, which of the 3 chainring combination did you choose?

  6. For learning how to work on your bicycle, I strongly suggest the [ParkTool Youtube channel](https://www.youtube.com/@parktool). They are a major manufacturer of bike tools and supplies and have very detailed “how to” videos (showcasing their tools, of course.)

These videos include, of course, one on how to [properly size your chain](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0YibMDWBAw). There is also a video on [adjusting mechanical rear derailleurs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY&t=813s).

Measure small to small to size before cutting. Looks like removing 1 or 2 links will solve it.

  8. You don’t need a chain sizing app. Just put the chain on the smallest gear front and back and take out enough links so that the lower derailleur pulley just start getting tension. Everything will fall into place once that’s correct.
