Honestly, I'm team Ben on the "think about who wants it all to be one thing." The European Union does, and it's a ridiculously successful peace project. Saying you want it all to be one, doesn't mean you can't carry different cultures and devolve power. Idk, "all the one" is a very vague thing, but I like "all the one" with devolved power, and celebrating diverse cultures (which btw especially nowadays exist within each European country already)
Yo, please make a Wendover video on how crap the German trains are. It's predicted to get more crap for the next 10 years because they have to shut down half the system in order to upgrade it, and there's no way to improve it without making it crap first. This is the result of failed semi-privatisation, and generally such a lesson in what happens when you don't maintain public goods. The German trains used to be famously good, and now they are a laughing stock. I think it's a story worth telling. How could it get so bad, and how do you fix it?
