Hey people. Broke my proximal humerous three weeks ago. Three part fracture. Had ORIF surgery two weeks ago. I’m part cyborg now with a titanium plate and titanium screws.

Anybody who has gone through similar knows I have three months off the bike before I can start doing light riding and four to six months before I can start charging hard harder with it taking upwards to a year to get 100% range of motion and strength back. Obviously my range of motion and strength are limited right now which I have lots of physical therapy to look forward to.

What’s killing me right now is just the downtime. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve walked into the garage just to squeeze the brakes on my bike or just do a torque check on the bolts or just to look at them lol. Not being able to ride is killing me. I definitely feel the depression starting creeping in.

Video games don’t hold much interest. Thought about getting a rock crawler remote control car, but I don’t know. Anybody that’s had this injury how did your recovery go and how did you handle the downtime?

  1. Sometimes, when I’m at work thinking about my bikes. I wonder if my bikes are at home, thinking about me at work.

We use to get together once a weekend and spend some quality time. Go for a ride. Y’know, quality time.

I don’t know where I was going with this.

When you don’t know who to be, be the best version of yourself. Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t. Can’t use legs but arms still work? Do some light arm stuff. Rehab properly, cos if you don’t, you might end up worse off and not riding for longer.
