It looks like a SunRinglĂ© hub – those require you to remove the non-driveside end cap, insert a tool into the notches on the axle and unthread the driveside end cap. You can use their tool, clamped in a vise, or you can use a cone wrench. A hammer is not a part of this process, I’m afraid.
