As an American, I'm used to second hand things being found cheap/free on marketplace or clothes cheap from goodwill and other thrifts. Second hand things in Germany seem to hold their value (at least in their owners eyes) very well and its frusturating for someone who tries to buy new as seldom as possible. But every once in a while you hit the jackpot! About an hour outside of Hamburg, someone listed this bike for free on the local marketplace. I messaged him within minutes of it being online and ventured to pick it up the very next day! Pulled it out of the barn, chatted hom up once he learned I was American, and gave him 5€ after I learned that the bike is actually in good working condition (albeit a little surface rust and grime) As a Wisconsinite, I'm very happy to have come across this bike that was designed (maybe built?) in my homestate. (no plans as what to do with the build, simply need racks for a bike trip planned through Netherlands later this year)

I am happy for you, but quick check on Kleinanzeigen gives me 3 Trek 950 for about 75€ just in my City. I think thats pretty cheap

  2. Pretty great catch.

For that, you’ll want to switch out the tires, tubes, cables, pads, pick a comfty saddle and maybe check the chain for wear, and that’s a good opportunity to upgrade tires to Schwalbe Marathons. Do a full-service clean and lube, and I also recommend a lightweight rear rack and a low-rider front rack.
