It's been month of trial/error, finding used parts, BREAKING said parts, learning about bicycles in general, and getting over the fear of judgements but my bike is finally rideable and ready for sharing! Yeah I know the brake lever isn't a good/safe choice, but until I'm working again this'll have to do! I welcome criticism and tips as I have only been wrenching on this thing for like 3 months and I know I have a lot to learn still!

The single speed with a rear derailleur made me giggle. Also the strap on the non drive side.

I’m glad you said you welcome criticism and got over your fear of judgment, because this pos belongs back in the dumpster.

Why not just flip the brake off the curve of the drops and onto the horizontal portion near the stem, would be much safer and keep the brake line from bending at a steep angle

  4. You have the bike you have, and good on you for trying to learn a new set of skills. A few of your solutions are good and some are somewhere in the sketchy-to-dangerous range. The bolt-on axle is a starter kit of an anti-theft practice. The deraileur as a chain tensioner is kinda ugly, but it’ll work, for now. However, move that brake lever up to the flats of the bars, and ride it there until you can come up with a proper set of levers and brakes. There are some affordable options out there (tektro comes to mind). That bit of strapping dangling down beside your wheel is an accident waiting to happen. Keep on wrenching.

I don’t hate this. There are things I don’t understand though. What’s going on with the strap? why is the derailleur that you’re using as a chain tensioner nearly unthreaded from the hanger? Why did you opt for a single rear brake instead of putting that up front? Why not just put the brake lever you do have on the flat part of the bar?

Just FYI, if you ask around at local shops you might find one that has a stash of SRAM road levers with blown up internals. They make for great brake levers for single speeds.

I really hate road bikes. I have zero interest in riding any of them. I’ve never liked them and I never will. I think the riding on roads is boring and lame.

With that being said, that bike is fucking rad! Go do some hoodlum shit! 🤘❤️🙏

This bike is not mechanically sound or safe.
Things like brake lever being for a different bike handle style are fine, we can call them bodges, even lack of brake could be fine (although illegal) if this was a fixie.
However, things like putting in a strap because the wheel doesn’t fit or having about one coil of thread in on the derailleur are just dangerous.
There is simply no way mechanically that they can work longer than like couple of rides after which it could either be a case of not being able to go for a ride or a hospital visit.
What I am trying to say is that you don’t need to be doing this. You can easily find fitting parts on any dump if the goal is to just assemble a working bicycle for as little money as possible.

  8. Someone please ask OP where he was on Jan 6th, because this looks like terrorism.

I’d re-lace those hubs so the deeper rim is in front. Otherwise looks perfect
