Hey everyone,

I’m am 17 heading into my first season of road racing and looking to upgrade my current bike.

Right now I’m on a carbon Giant Defy (M/L) with a Tiagra groupset. The frame itself is solid, but I’ve been having ongoing issues with shifting consistency, and it’s starting to feel like the groupset is holding me back as I get more serious about racing.

I found this bike locally and wanted to get some opinions:

Scott C1 Pro carbon frame

Full Shimano Ultegra 11-speed

Reynolds carbon wheelset

Fizik saddle

Well maintained, summer use only

$1750 CAD

From my perspective, it seems like a big upgrade in terms of drivetrain performance and race readiness, especially with Ultegra and the carbon wheels.

I’m 6’2”, 175 lbs, and the seller says it should fit me.

My goals:

First season of road racing (crits + road races)

More reliable, precise shifting under load

A bike that’s competitive without needing immediate upgrades

Does this seem like a good move for the price? Anything I should watch out for with an older carbon frame or used carbon wheels?

Appreciate any advice!

  1. That is a 10 speed groupset going by the crankset and shifters. Can’t say I buy their top notch maintenance yet leaving tired bar tape on the bike. The price seems very high. Though eBay has some crazy prices for those wheels at the moment.

Reasonable chance you can sort out the shifting with a new chain and cassette. Or if you just replaced the chain a new cassette. New chain and old cassette can result in bad shifting. Maybe new cables and/or housing. As long as the shifter mechanism is working well.
