I have no experience with campy groupsets. This is/was on a Alan Unicross cyclocross bike. I'm going to assume it needs to be replaced? For simplicity I may just even go to a single speed cx bike for this winter.
All done. I suppose you could get it welded which brings its own risks (uneven penetration and heat, etc), but a replacement would be easier and not too expensive.

I would say toast… but I don’t know about silver solder on TI. If you REALLY want to keep it you might research or try it.

Find an experienced TIG welder; they can repair it, and then polish it to restore the surface to its original condition. However, it can only be welded with TIG or laser welding.

this generation campy derailleur is rebuildable to a point, you can find a donor body. And this is a known proble for this generation.
Unfortunately there is no Shiftmate to run a Campy 9 speed Ergo with a shimano derailleur, so youre kinda stuck with tracking down a used Campy derailleur here, either for parts or just a whole one.
If you go single speed you can gut the Ergo levers and they make great brake levers.

This is a common issue for this generation of derailleurs by Campa.
This is done.
Don’t throw it away though, it can be used/sold for parts.

You broke it after 35 years of service. Good job.

A replacement part maybe available, if you want to try to repair it…

I used to work in a shop specialising in vintage road bikes and we had a whole box full of these, all broken in exactly the same way. I’ve never seen one break further or really stop working but we always removed them so I don’t really know what would happen if you kept riding. I would recommend swapping it for a different Campagnolo 9 speed derailleur, from what I remember it’s only the record titanium 9 speed that has this problem

done for me !
if you want to go single speed, use an old derailleur as a Chain Tensioner with a short cable đŸ˜‰
cheap and effective
Unfortunately this ones for the broken parts bin đŸ˜• ebay for a new one, maybe even NOS if your lucky!

Your assumption is correct.
