Received this bike this weekend. Removed the cardboard packaging from around the frame and underneath found this hairline cracking to the paint. The wheel was packaged next to this area in the box behind some cardboard, so i think it may have possibly fallen over in transit.

The bike was quite good deal being an older model, and it was the last one in stock. What should I be asking for when I contact the retailer? I’m unsure whether this cracking is just superficial damage to the paint or structural?

  1. I wouldn’t ask for anything, it’s a bummer but hopefully you put a bunch of miles and your own scratches on it soon.

  2. I’d be after a new frame, even if the shop you got the bike from dont have stock I would guess Giant will have warranty replacement frames available

Third picture looks like there is a bit of a dent. Is that the intended shape of the frame or maybe just the lighting? If its not… well

  4. That could be multiple scratches in the paint. Or it could be cracks caused by being crushed in transit, with the carbon damaged underneath.

If it were me, I’d want a refund with the bike going back to the shop.

Yes, you will have missed out on a good deal. But you’ll find another.

To be returning now for a replacement due to damage in transit. Walk away and get a new one, it’s your right as a consumer to expect the product you purchased to arrive in the condition which you agreed to purchase it in.

  6. It looks superficial, like the epoxy layer but I am no expert at all. Contact the bike shop 100%. Tell them this how you received it. Even tho good deal … your safety is more important, you’ll find another good deal. Also, I’d be agitated every time I saw that crack.

That does look like a dent or odd highlight

This is not a Reddit problem, it is a warranty issue between you, the shipper and the seller. You are not going to solve it here. SAVE the box and all packing material and contact those 2.
