Hi guys,
You probably see this all the time but now its my turn to annoy you… According to the canyon chart I need a size M, when picking a size they also recommend only M (not S or M). However, as you can see I am not far into M territory at all so I was thinking I may be better of with an S? What do you think?
Bikemodle: Aeroad CF SLX 7 AXS SPEED.
Total height: 178.4 (5'10,2 in freedom measurements)
Inseam: 84cm (33,1)
Cheers!

M – im 178 and 86inseam and S would be way to much drop. I needed a 80mm stem though. But S has less stack and with my measurement I already have a big drop with size M
Im the same height with a 30-31″ inseam. I went Small and it feels good. Is there a difference in crank length with Medium?
I’ve had the same with the Grail, was also right in between M and L, went for M and never regretted it.
I have similar measurements as you 178/83cm but with a Grail instead of Aeroad. I went with the S and have been happy but the fit isn’t perfect.
A smaller one will be snappier and more agile, but the downside is that I need to replace the cockpit as the stem length is too small and feel too cramped.
I haven’t ridden a Grail in size M so can’t really say if I would have been happier on that other one.
Same stats as you.
Went to canyon, test rided both. Both felt good.
Went to one Bike fitter, who made me swear not to take small.
Went to another bike fitter, he made me swear to stay away from small as well.
I went with the M and felt just as good as when I tried it. After a while, the final position is a slacked stem and a switch to an even longer reach (+2).
Anyways, the bike fitters were right.
YMMV, I’m quite flexible and can hold aggressive positions for long time. More relaxed cyclists tend to prefer smaller bikes that are more comfortable.
