Some of the videos online show there is a thumb button that opens a slot for the knob to go in. Mine doesn’t have that but it does actuate if you try to ram it inside. Am I just not being forceful enough?

There should be a screw on your thumb button,you hook the cable first inside your dropper seat post and then slide it in your thumb button and tighten with the screw
What does the instruction manual for your post say you should do to connect it?
