I’m replacing the derailleur and the original one didn’t have a hanger. It was bolted directly onto the frame line this one. Not sure if this one is going to need it?
It is better to have one if you ever crash or hit it your frame will not take the blow as hard so you can save the frame

Your frame has a derailleur hanger. It’s not a *replaceable* derailleur hanger, it’s a fixed part of the frame, welded (as part of the dropout) to the seat and chainstays. This is really common in older steel frames or less expensive modern aluminium alloy frames.
