I’m planning a trip with my partner from Idaho to Bellingham WA on my bike in August. I have the route mostly figured out, but I’m looking for tips or resources anyone has specifically for camping locations between Mazama and Marblemount. I’m not super familiar with biking through what I’m sure will be a super packed-with-cars-and-people kind of zone at that time of year. Can you camp in the park? Will we even be in the park itself? Does it require a lot of reserving in advance etc?? Any tips on how to approach this part of the trip?

Colonial Creek campground is a nice stopping point right after the pass, near the big dam lakes. Going east to west is absolutely the move by the way; it’s a shorter climb with better shoulders. Going the other way is so rough. Have fun and good luck!
