  1. Ever since I started seeing clear epoxy spread thin over the pinned joint on some name brand rims I have copied the technique whenever this occurs. I work in a shop and always use appropriate width tape but sometimes this happens and no other fix has worked as consistently.

It’s a sleeved joint rim so isn’t necessarily airtight there (welded rims usually are but even then can be a little porous, sleeve joint basically means there’s no complete weld/join). The tape needs to be the full width of the rim at the join. It’s not automatically problematic and will often seal up over time but it’s not guaranteed.

(equally, it might not be the inner join- any air and sealant that gets into the rim will come out at the easiest place, and usually spoke nipples seal themselves up pretty well. So this could be a sign of a leak elsewhere, especially at the valve)

Oh remember that if you do decide to redo it, leaking where it is means there’s sealant inside the rim itself so it’s not a bad idea to wash that out while you’re at it. But personally I’d wait and see if it stops
