So today I’ve received my Favero powermeter pedals and thought let’s do a quick swap so I can go for a ride tmrw. However the old pedals where so stuck the place where you put the hex tool started to distort. The LBS tried with maximum power but if they continued it will probably mess up the hex screw. LBS mentioned that if the screw is stuck then the only option is to replace the whole crankset with a new one. Any advice on this?

Heat, penetrating oil, turning the hex key into the correct direction, more leverage… but I guess your bike shop already knows this stuff. Maybe use an impact wrench if you have one.

Multiple tools and chemicals (oils and such) as well as heat are al options.

Ina main thing is to anchor the cranks, so removing them and clamping them in a bench top vise is the best way to maximize leverage and to help prevent you from splitting open your knuckles on the chainring once the pedal breaks free.

You can use two piece of wood in the vise jaws to prevent damaging the cranks.

  3. Heat gun. I had a seized crank recently and no amount of anything would undo that bolt until the motorbike mechanic got the heat gun out and then a series of impact drivers.
