When I was entering Canada via the Windsor-Detroit border, the Canadian border patrol agent was very polite snd friendly and asked us of where we were going. When going back to the U.S., the American border patrol agent was very intimidating and was acting suspicious of us even though we obviously didn’t have anything bad.

Is he one of those crazy aggressive drivers from Texas? Be formal and polite by saying ma'am and sir to people all the time is odd and awkward. Being polite and turning into the incredible hulk behind the wheel by driving.
Polite and friendly Canadian border officer. Compare that with rude, surly, and arrogant US CBP officer.
Got the third degree crossing into Canada with Texas plates many years ago. Even searched my car. They're big on the firearm questions if you have Texas plates.
It really depends where you are. Sumas border Canada/USA crossing is so simple for a Canadian ENTERING the USA, or at least it certainly was for me. Getting back into Canada was usually super heat. But the first time I crossed into the USA they completely searched my car
Funny the Canadian liberals were virtue signaling and accepted the world's terrorists, gave them citizenship and the liberals now have them paying for it, they get to the American border and wonder why it's getting so difficult.
I have always found the Canadian agents fun to chat with,just be honest and don't give them a hard time

Serious question: what if somebody had said “yes” to having tobacco on them? I assume you could just lie and say no. But if you had nicotine pouches or a vape pen on you, do they confiscate that?
Pepper spray is legal in Canada.The amount of capsicum 🫑 might be a problem.
