My girlfriend and I built our first wheelset 💪🏻

I’ve always wanted to build my own wheelset, and the opportunity finally came up. We’ve got a bit of a dream to one day open a bike service shop (+ coffee), so this felt like a great step in that direction.

I’m currently a bit more experienced with bike maintenance than she is, so I suggested we take on something completely new to both of us and learn it together.

It went really wheel (couldn’t resist 😅), and we genuinely loved the whole process. As a bonus, I got to build my dream road-oriented wheelset for my gravel bike:

– SON 29s dynamo hub

– Hope rear hub

– 52mm deep

– 25mm internal

– 32mm external

I was also pleasantly surprised that the front hub with the dynamo came in at ~880g — not too shabby!

Nice. What guides or sources did you follow for this? Was the learning curve easier than you initially thought? I’ve seen people talk about it like they’d much rather pass it off to a pro builder after not getting it.
