For 24+ years I had a 44 miles round trip commute to work. Now I live 6 miles round trip. Today was my first bike commute to work- on my new Trek fx1 gen4.

Remember to lock the frame, not just the quick release front wheel

That’s awesome. Please consider locking your bike more securely, though. A cable lock on the front wheel is just barely above not locking it at all. A u-lock or thick chain would be better, securing the rear-wheel and frame to the rack. You can still use the cable to keep someone from taking the front wheel.
I know that rack is terrible, but you can lean your bike against one of the ends or turn it sideways (if you’re not blocking for other riders). Some people put their front wheel over the top to get the frame closer.

I’m on a deserted campus in a residential area behind a lock gate. I’m safe for now…. working in a city I understand the importance of a proper lock which I will purchase on Saturday.
