I have a Novatec D412SB freehub that has crunchy bearings, and I want to replace them. I have a bearing removal tool which popped out the upper bearing very easily but I'm unsure about the removal of the lower one.

Looks like there is a sleeve between the two of them, with a small 'lip' that the lower bearing is sitting on. I tried pulling it out with the bearing removal tool but it was very tight,.

Is this how it's removed? Or should it just be knocked out from the other side?

  1. You need some retaining ring pliers to remove the C shaped clip. That will let you push the bearing out.

  2. IntoxicatingVapors on

You need snap ring pliers, but it’s funny because at least visually that appears to be en external snap ring for a shaft, not an internal snap ring for a bore like that. Can anyone confirm this is normal for Novatec?
