Just getting used to my new bike with flared bars.
Not sure if I didn’t set them up correctly, or it’s because they are flared and I’m not used to that, but they are a bit uncomfortable on my palms and wrists.
Is there a rule of thumb for what angle to set them up at?

Those bars look strange to me. Normally I think you would walk to tilt the bars up so they are more parallel and move your shifters to a comfortable position but it looks like the drops would then be in a weird position.
I don’t know but you’re in an amazing area for gravel cycling there!
I would say no
The only rule to follow is set them up so it’s comfortable for you.
Personally they seem very down angled. I would aim for flat so you can rest on bottom of hoods.
Many handlebars will have some marking on the front which has a suggested angle. Check if you have one
I think they should come up a bit to where your drops are slightly angled down. If I were riding with the drops parallel to the ground I would be uncomfortable. I think mine are almost parallel with the bottom tube
Caveat that I’m more of a roadie, but no — your bars are angled too far down. You generally want your wrists and hands in a neutral position when in the hoods. With that angle, I imagine you have to extend your wrists quite a bit.
I don’t use bars with that dramatic of a flare, but I would start with getting them roughly parallel to ground level, if I were in your shoes.
Looking at the Sonder website it looks like you’ve got the angle a bit wrong. The drops are supposed to be angled almost diagonally. I’d start by trying to make sure the top are level and see where that leaves the drops. But also, make sure it’s comfortable, there will be some wiggle room here!

i cant imagine anyone will be comfortable on these bars. its looks like they are designed to only use the drops and never the hoods for riding
i would even suggest a different handlebar.
Dude. That saddle too. Pushing you forward and worsening your relationship with your bars.
