Hi everyone,

My team and I are designing a HUD device for bicycles for a course project, and I wanted to get honest feedback from cyclists and bike enthusiasts.

The idea is a small handlebar-mounted display system with a transparent screen that lets the rider view simple information without looking too far down. It is meant to help with things like navigation directions and basic ride info while keeping the rider’s eyes closer to the road.

We would really appreciate your thoughts.

A few questions:

• Would you personally use something like this on your bike?

• What information would you actually want shown on the HUD?

• Do you think this design looks too bulky or distracting?

• Would safety, visibility in sunlight/night, or theft be a concern for you?

• What would make this product genuinely useful instead of gimmicky?

We’d appreciate any honest feedback, whether positive or critical. Thanks!

  1. It looks incredibly bulky and cumbersome. I get all the information I need on my tiny Wahoo Bolt.

Bike computers are a pretty mature product with plenty of very advanced offerings in compact packages- for not much money.

I don’t think you have a market for this for two reasons – serious cyclists would just use Garmin/Wahoo, casual cyclists don’t need it.

What about – pitching this as a integrated device on a city hire bike? You would need to design some sort of secure hood to fully intetgrate the device into the top of the handlbar. I can see a use case for tourists benefitting from such a device – particularly for directions.

What is this providing that a simple lightweight Garmin 830 can’t

Weight and size (wind resistance) matters

  4. I quite like the idea of a gun sight and pretending I’m in a spitfire while I ride my bike!

But otherwise no, this a solution in search of a problem, with lots of drawbacks.

While I wouldn’t I’m sure it could be usefull for the dedicated commuter.
