Hello, i'm new to roadbikes and wanted to upgrade my tyres on my vintage bike. The wheels are 27×1-1/4 and through my research, i found that out of the seemingly limited options, the Panaracer Pasela is one of the best choices when wanting a modern, fast tyre. I bought a pair off ebay and installed them, but for some reason, the front tyre is rubbing against the brake component/fork. I'm a bit lost as i assumed a tyre thats exatcly the same size should be an easy, direct replacement. The rear wheel is fine, its just the front having problems. Any help would be appreciated!

There are a few tire options for 27x 1 1/8″ which would fit better (albeit that clearance looks tight regardless).
There is a chance that the bike was originally designed around 28″ rims (which are smaller, 622mm iso vs 630mm iso for 27″ rims), more commonly known as 700c, and was fitted with 27″ rims later on by a previous owner.
You could also potentially look at aftermarket brakes with a larger tire clearance, like the Tektro 559. However, I am not confident that such a setup would provide adequate clearance with the current wheel and tire setup.
Yeah, hate to say it but it doesn’t fit. You need a different tire.
Plus side, there really isn’t an issue with running different tires on the front and back.
The crux of the issue is that tires with the same nominal size are don’t necessarily have the same actual width and height.
This Panaracer is nominally 1-1/4 or 32 mm wide, but there’s no guarantee that it’s exactly the same width and height as some other tire that is nominally the same size. The difference can be several millimeters.
what bike is it? that might help us some.
