What do we reckon? Somehow this cut didn’t cause me a flat (praise be to RideNow TPU tubes). Have ridden ~500k on it since I spotted it – hadn’t realised I could see the (bright pink…) tube through it.

Was planning on sticking it together with some neoprene glue and popping a boot on the inside. But now I can see the tube so clearly I thought I’d consult the hivemind.

Patch/glue or replace?

  1. Front tire would be an absolute no for me, rear maybe with a boot.

I know how this really really sucks and I’d be almost 50/50 about it but probably would replace it, at least before the next big descent. GP5000s are expensive but teeth even with general healthcare are really really expensive. I don’t think it’s gonna blow, but I personally would rather not want to risk it.

  2. Depends on what riding you do, as someone who daily commutes on a bike I’d change it, but if you do rides on weekends just patch it up.

  3. Patch the inside of the tire, Superglue the cut and put it on the rear wheel if it isn’t already there?

  4. Patch it and turn it the other way. I’ve had a couple bourbons but I’m pretty sure that is on backwards. Arrows point the way you want to go.

Boot it and slap a gloop of Shoe-Goo in the gap and ride like nothing happened.

That tire has a whole lotta life left in it.

I buy a new tire once I can see the colored casing through the rubber and keep it with me. It could go at a moments notice so as long a you don’t mind roadside repairs, a spare tube+tire is fine
