I'm pulling the cable tight with pliers. I think it's routed correctly around the pin. I tried the trick with the low limit screw. I also tightened the cable even more with my barrel adjuster. It doesn't come close to shifting the chain.
Should I move the spacer from my bottom bracket? Is there another trick to installing the cable even tighter?
I usually use a 105 r700 front derailleur but I had to take it down temporarily and I need to use the sora in the meantime. The 105 was shifting flawlessly with this setup.

If you push the top of the derailleur inwards towards the frame, does it move into the correct position or not?
Maybe not 100% related but if you use an inner tube as a shim, it would probably never index properly.
Your BB is for MTB and so it’s pushing the crankset too far out for the pull of the FD. Your shifters can’t pull enough cable to get it over to the large ring.
I’ve managed to ” hack ” a 105 to pull far enough but it was never great. I think this is the most likely issue
Your limit screw is set incorrectly if you are getting that much chain rub with the cable removed. With the limit set incorrectly, you’re going to be fighting cable tension the entire time, and your barrel adjustor is likely unable to fully compensate.
