Hey everyone,

I recently got this vintage road bike and I’m trying to learn as much as possible about it. I don’t know the exact model or year, so I’m hoping some of you might recognize it or point me in the right direction.

I’ll attach photos below

-any info is appreciated:

…Brand and model name

…Approximate year/era

….Anything interesting or unique about it

I’d also love to know if it’s considered a quality bike or just something more basic. The parts are mostly "campagnolo" "colnago"

Thanks in advance for any help- I’m trying to get more into cycling and thought this would be a good place to start!

Cottur Bici de Trieste. I’d bet early 1950s. Maybe a bit later. Very nice example.

  2. – Very nice early 1960s higher end road bike in rather good almost original condition

    – rims are not original, most likely replaced in the 80s for clincher use

    – check the hubs (provide pictures maybe), to see whether the hubs are the original ones

    – pump is also not from the 1960s but more likely 1980s

    – everything else seems to be original hardware from the 1960s

If you want to restore it to its original “glory”, you need to disassemble it entirely. Clean everything carefully, be sure not to use anything too aggressive so you don’t damage any of the original decals. Do not repaint anything! If there is rust, make sure to carefully remove it with a little piece of sanding paper and apply a film of linseed oil on the blank steel.

Clean all bearings. Check for pitting in all of them, if need be, replace the individual balls of these bearings with smaller ones and check if the bearings move freely without play.

This bike originally was equipped with tubular rims (the standard for road bikes in the sixties), I’d go as far and replace the rims with tubular ones if the hubs are still the original ones, if they aren’t check for a good 1960s wheelset on the digital marketplaces and put some nice tan wall tubulars on it!

Please provide more detailed pictures of all the bikes decals. Really interested what it might be.

ps: could also be a late 50ies model

  3. For future reference, don’t both with photos of things like the frame pump (which is a standard Silca plastic pump..
Take a photo of the head tube and badge instead, they will tell you more about the bike. The crank is a low end cotter pin steel crank, you would replace that if you want to ride a lot.
The frame has nice lug work but I don’t see a decal for either Reynolds or Columbus steel tubing, the lack of a decal indicates a lower quality frame set.

  4. Unbelievable. Just gorgeous. Do not clear coat. Lightly clean. Nothing wrong with wax. Look up L’Eroica. This would be a head turner. Would place you in the hierarchy of esteemed collectors. You would need to put a movie premier velour rope around it. You have lived a complete life.
